‘Rescue Me’ raises £2300 for local lifesavers
Rebel the police puppy and a Ninja Power Superbike were just two of the crowd pullers organised by Volpa as part of the ‘Rescue Me’ charity campaign held at St John’s Shopping Centre, Perth.
‘Rescue Me’ complemented the national ‘Full Throttle’ charity fundraiser by centre owners Workman Retail who were biking around UK shopping centres to raise £20,000 for Air Ambulance UK.
As well as giving the Full Throttle team a warm Scottish welcome when they arrived in the Fair City, Volpa wanted to create a fun family event raising funds for local charities.
Along with the St John’s Shopping Centre team, we chose to raise money for Tayside Mountain Rescue in its 75th anniversary year. An exciting ten day-long programme of events in and around the mall was created based on the theme of rescue activities, biking and adventure sports.
Focus centred on a stage where various organisations including the Fire Brigade, Tayside Police Bikesafe Team, the British Red Cross and, of course, Tayside Mountain Rescue could display material and promote their services. We also created and staffed a Rescue Me shop.
Many of the stores in the centre got in on the action by carrying out events including story telling and motorbike displays. An inflatable sphere and climbing wall provided some exhilarating moments and interesting photo opportunities.
Thanks to the generosity of the people of Perth the event raised £2300 – an amazing 10% of the overall money collected by the Full Throttle team nationally. We generated significant local and regional PR coverage. Visitors to the shopping centre on the most successful day of the campaign were up by 30% from the same day the previous year.
