St John’s Shopping Centre’s Wall-E Raises £600 for Charity
The WALL:E wood carving, donated by St John’s Shopping Centre in Perth, has this week raised £600 at a London charity auction for Make a Wish, a charity that grants magical wishes to children facing life threatening illnesses.
The carving, which was created by world championship chainsaw carver Peter Bowsher, is the second carving to raise money for charity with Bowsher’s earlier carving of Oor Wullie raising £700 for Cash for Kids in 2008.
Make a Wish accepted the donation of the carving in January with the intention of auctioning him off at their annual Make a Wish Valentine’s Ball, which was held at the Dorchester in London on Valentine’s Day.
Amanda Hillhouse, regional manager for Make a Wish, said “This was such an unusual gift and we were delighted to accept it on behalf of the Make a Wish Foundation. WALL:E is an endearing love story and it was only fitting that we auctioned him at our fundraising Valentine’s Ball.”
Siobhan McConnell, St John’s Shopping Centre manager said “I’m delighted that WALL:E has raised such a considerable sum of money for Make a Wish and so pleased to know that even more good will come of it. He was a welcome addition to St John’s Shopping Centre over Christmas and the local children just loved him. ”
