Doctor Covers the Distance to Raise £450 for Cancer Charity
A Kinross GP, Dr Roddy Pattison, who set off on a “Virtual Ventoux” bike ride in St John’s Shopping Centre on Friday, to raise vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, has raised almost £450 for the charity in just 6 hours.

Roddy, who took up cycling in January to take part in the Macmillan Cancer Support Etape Caledonia, and to raise money for the charity, inspired by a colleague who had lost their battle with cancer earlier this year.

Roddy cooked up the idea of cycling a stage of the Tour de France, while stationary, in St John’s Shopping Centre as a way to boost his fundraising activity. His efforts have paid off with Friday raising £445.79 for the charity in just 6 hours.

On Friday, Roddy replicated the distance covered by the route (172km), which runs from Montelimar to the summit of the fabled Mont Ventoux (1,912m/6,273ft, on a static spinning cycle situated next to Coffee Republic in St John’s Shopping Centre. He’ll be heading to France later this month to take part in the real thing.

Roddy commented, “The visitors and staff in St John’s Shopping Centre were tremendous on Friday and I’d like to thank everyone whole heartedly for their support and encouragement throughout the day. Together we’ve raised a good sum of money for a very worthwhile cause, with all funds raised being donated to the Perth Appeal. ”
