People Power to Commemorate Perth800
St John’s Shopping Centre, Perth, launches its search this weekend for the very best photographic memories of the city that the people of Perth have to offer. The shopping centre, in conjunction with The Courier, is looking for your help to create an album of the best 800 photographs of Perth People over the years.
From March until September, on the first Saturday of every month, a team of photograph hunters will be on hand in the shopping mall to digitally scan your personal pictures and hear your stories of why your photograph should be included in this unique Perth800 album.
No photo is too old or too new, all they ask is that it features people from Perth at events, monuments, shops – whatever you have!
Siobhan McConnell, shopping centre manager commented. “We were inspired by our campaign a couple of years ago that showed images of Perth’s main shopping areas in the 1960s and 1920s. The photographs were endlessly fascinating for visitors to the shopping centre and we wondered how many people have fabulous scenes of Perth and its people over the last 100 or so years just simply hiding in a suitcase in their hall cupboard?! So, we though, let’s get them out of those suitcases and create a people’s history of Perth to commemorate Perth 800!”
The People’s Perth team will be in St John’s Shopping Centre this Saturday, 5th March and on the first Saturday of every month up until September. There’s no need to have the latest technology – the team can take your picture and scan it on the spot – you don’t even have to leave it with them. The album will be published before Christmas to mark the end of the Perth 800 celebrations.
