Gino D’Acampo Puts Perthshire on a Plate
The fair city of Perth is getting set for a “Fantastico” food event this summer where, on a rare visit to Scotland, celebrity chef Gino D’Acampo , King of the Jungle, will head up a host of mouth watering offerings at the launch of the city’s Perthshire On A Plate event.

The popular Italian TV chef and celebrity jungle winner will take centre stage at the second day of the two-day food and drink event which takes place in Perth’s Concert Hall and outside plaza on Friday, July 2 and Saturday, July 3.

Perthshire is world famous for its foodie qualities and home to many award winning producers as well as celebrity chefs. Perthshire on a Plate is being staged by Perthshire Chamber of Commerce, and is set to satisfy the varying tastes of even the most discerning of food lovers. Supported by a wealth of local chefs, exhibitors, traders and experts for a two-day programme, Gino will be shining a bright spotlight on Perthshire and all its culinary delights.

Vicki Unite, chief executive of Perthshire Chamber of Commerce, commented “Food events are staged the length and breadth of Scotland on an annual basis, and they have universal appeal to both the trade and the public.”

“Perth is truly laden with an abundance of prime quality produce covering everything from game to soft fruit, but we seem to have fallen behind in terms of staging major public food events. Perthshire on a Plate is set to address that and we intend to showcase our extensive local larder with the help of producers, suppliers, retailers and experts from across the county.”

This exciting event will be staged over two days, focussing on trade customers on the Friday afternoon and a fabulous programme of demonstrations, tastings and exhibitions aimed at the public on the Saturday. Celebrity chef Gino will officially open Saturday’s bill of fare at 10am.

“Perthshire On A Plate will be mouth watering in every sense. In addition to two cookery demonstrations by Gino, we have Scottish Executive Chef of The Year, Graeme Pallister of 63 Tay Street, and Stephen Craik from the Famous Grouse Experience at Crieff also doing cookery demonstrations” continued Ms Unite.

Visitors will also be able to enjoy other tasty titbits such as signature dishes from some of the area’s leading hotels and restaurants, a tipple or two from local drinks producers, additional demonstrations on mouth watering chocolate desserts, game preparation, “growing your own” - even the expert guide to gutting and cooking that freshly caught trout!

“We’ve been greatly encouraged by the support and enthusiasm shown by the foodie community in Perthshire and extremely grateful for the generous help from many of our members in getting this inaugural event off the ground,” said Ms Unite. “We’re also happy to hear from anyone involved in producing or showcasing Perthshire’s finest who wants to take part in this major showcase public event.”

Main supporters of this prestigious food event include Perth and Kinross Council, Stagecoach Group and The Famous Grouse Experience.

Entry to the event is free. Access to Gino’s demonstrations and private lunch can be purchased in advance at www.perthshireonaplate.co.uk
