St John’s Shopping Centre Raises £3250 for Comic Relief
A fundraising campaign, on an unprecedented scale, mounted by St John’s Shopping Centre in aid of Comic Relief has netted the charity a staggering £3250 as Perth shoppers got involved in the festivities and did something funny for money.
In the week running up to Red Nose Day, St John’s Shopping Centre, organised a whole host of fundraising events to encourage local shoppers to give generously to Comic Relief and their efforts clearly paid off.
Some of the activities included a prize draw raffle offering a top prize of a luxury stay for two at Knock Castle in Crieff, and an opportunity to have your hair done by a Charlie Taylor stylist in return for a donation.
Siobhan McConnell, St John’s Shopping Centre manager commented “The events proved really popular with visitors to the shopping centre and the queue to have your hair done on Red Nose Day seemed to be endless. I’d like to thank everyone who took part - from Centre retailers, businesses that donated prizes to the visitors who contributed to the fundraising. Together we’ve raised a significant amount of money and I’m really pleased to see that, even in tough times, people are digging deep to help those less fortunate.”
The funds raised in Perth will be added to the £57million raised by Comic Relief's TV extravaganza, which smashed the previous record of £40.5m from 2007, when the charity event was last held. The money raised from Red Nose Day will go towards helping disadvantaged people across Africa and in the UK.
