YouTube Stunt Cyclist to wow Cycling Enthusiasts
A Scottish stunt cyclist who has racked up millions of fans on the video sharing site YouTube is set to amaze the crowds at the Perthshire Cycling Festival which takes place on the weekend of the Macmillan Cancer Support Etape Caledonia. Danny Macaskill and The Clan cycle stunt team will wow the crowds of over 3500 cycling enthusiasts and their supporters who are expected to flock to Highland Perthshire on the weekend of the 16th and 17th May for the annual event which is Britain’s only closed road cycle race.
Danny’s daredevil cycling video is currently the talk of YouTube and the national media, and now it is set to be acted out live for audiences attending the Festival.
Stunt cyclist Danny Macaskill’s video was made by his flatmate Dave Sowerby over the past winter in Edinburgh and has amassed almost a million views in just three days. The 23-year old, who is originally from the Isle of Skye and moved to Edinburgh three years ago, spent hours perfecting each stunt in the 5 minute video.
Danny who heads up ’The Clan’, Scotland’s Cycle Stunt Team, will be showing off his daring bike display skills on the 16th May as part of the Perthshire Cycling Festival which takes places at Victoria Park in Aberfeldy.
Danny said: “"My mum used to get pretty sick of the police always being at the door with me because I used to jump onto people's walls with my bike and a couple of times I was sent to a children's panel. But since then I have now even done demos for the police who are working with community projects to inspire youths not to drink alcohol, so I'm pretty happy I have stuck at it.”
Festival organiser Emma Burtles says “We are delighted that Danny and his team-mates will be performing The Big Air Show in Aberfeldy. We can’t wait to see all that he can do! There will be many other exciting, fun and useful opportunities at the festival whether you want to simply have a go on a bike, try your hand at unicycling or handcycling or using a funny bike, get information on local cycling routes or just watch everyone else having a go!”
Perthshire Cycling Festival is on 16th May and runs from 10.30 to 4pm and is free to enter. There will be music and food to accompany all the activities. More information on www.perthshirecyclingfestival.co.uk.
The Macmillan Cancer Support Etape Caledonia takes place on Sunday 17th May, starting from 7am until 3pm in Pitlochry and spectators can attend free. For further information visit www.etapecaledonia.co.uk
