St John’s Shopping Centre Opens its Doors for Take Your Kids to Work Day
On Thursday 30th April, five Perthshire school children will be taking home a work experience day to remember. St John’s Shopping Centre in Perth is playing host to five local school children in part of the national initiative “Take Your Child to Work Day”.
Designed to be more than a career day, the Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work® program goes beyond the average “shadow” an adult. Exposing girls and boys to what a parent or mentor in their lives do during the work day is important, but showing them the value of their education, helping them discover the power and possibilities associated with a balanced work and family life, providing them an opportunity to share how they envision the future and begin steps toward their end goals in a hands-on and interactive environment is key to their achieving success.
The children will follow a pre-planned agenda that takes in a number of the roles fulfilled by the shopping centre including security, customer care, retail selling and managing stock deliveries. With 38 retailers and 4 offices within the shopping centre, there is lots on offer to give a genuine flavour of what really goes on behind the scenes of an industry that employs 3 million people in Britain.
The children and parents participating include retailers BHS and True Scots, as well as members of St John’s Shopping Centre’s customer care team.
St John’s Shopping Centre manager, Siobhan McConnell is overseeing the day’s agenda, “We have an action packed agenda for the children tomorrow which will give them a taste of the jobs on offer in a shopping centre, ranging from working in a store, and keeping the public safe to dealing with deliveries and keeping the centre clean and tidy. It is a tremendous opportunity for kids to really experience how vibrant and fun a working environment can be.”
