Dermot Murnaghan & Georgie Thompson Sign Up For Macmillan Cancer Support Etape Caledonia
Leading Sky television presenting duo Dermot Murnaghan and Georgie Thompson will be swapping the safety of the studio for the open Highlands of Perthshire in May, as they saddle up for the Macmillan Cancer Support Etape Caledonia.

Sky News presenter Dermot, a keen cyclist, has already experienced part of the 81 mile course after joining current round the world cycling record holder Mark Beaumont for a training event in March. For Sky Sports News presenter Georgie however, it will represent a whole new challenge as the fitness enthusiast competes in her first long distance cycling event.

Commenting ahead of the challenge, Dermot said:
“The Etape Caledonia is becoming an increasingly popular event on the cycling calendar so I’m delighted to be taking part in this year’s race.

“Having already experienced beautiful scenery on the training ride earlier in the year I’m looking forward to getting back up to Perthshire in May and competing in the race itself.”

As well as being one of the most recognisable faces of Sky Sports News, Georgie is the co-founder a fitness company SUPERchick and it was her passion for health and exercise that inspired her to take part in the Etape.

Georgie said:
“The opportunity to take part in an amazing event such as the Etape Caledonia is a fantastic challenge and one I’m really excited by.

“81 miles seems like quite a daunting distance but I’ve been training hard and am looking forward to joining the other riders on the start line in May.”

The Etape has experienced its most popular year to date with more than 3,500 people having signed up to take part in the UK’s premium mass participation closed road race. Participants have yet again been drawn in by the stunning scenery of Highland Perthshire, with the route winding through the picturesque landscape.
